Wireless charging has always been considered a very trendy but not very practical technology, because generally it is charging more slowly than wired connections. However, South Korea's LG's Innoteck Innovation Department has brought an exciting solution: a 15W power quick charge board, which will be released later this month.
This means that LG has increased the power of wireless charging by 3 times compared to existing products. According to the test, a smartphone can charge about 50% of its power within 30 minutes. And the most exciting thing is that this technology is compatible with existing wireless charging equipment specifications, and also includes a protection technology to prevent the risk of fire damage caused by overheating of the battery under high current charging.
Wireless charging is currently a growing market. According to a TSR report, sales in 2015 are US$553 million, and it is expected to reach 2.2 billion by 2019.
LG's high-power charging board will be available in Australia, Europe and North America in the middle of this month and pricing is yet to be confirmed.
