During the conference, Deputy Mayor Liu Wei announced the "Notice on the Issuance of the 2012 Foshan Science and Technology Awards," highlighting 106 innovative technologies, including the "Development and Industrialization of Diamond Grinding Blocks for Surface Grinding and Polishing of Building Ceramics." These achievements reflect the city's growing strength in scientific research and technological application.
Since Foshan began its efforts to build a national innovative city in 2013, the local government has allocated a total of 2.349 billion yuan in innovation funds. The proportion of R&D expenditure in GDP has surpassed the provincial average, showing a strong commitment to research and development. Additionally, the performance of the Foshan High-tech Zone improved significantly, rising from last place to third in the province. The number of experts selected for the "Thousand Talents Program" reached 13, indicating a growing pool of high-level talent and a positive environment for innovation.
Huang Ningsheng, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, who attended the meeting, praised Foshan as a key pioneer in Guangdong’s technological advancement. Over the past two years, the city has significantly increased its financial support for innovation and has established a new model of collaboration between industry, universities, and research institutions. Foshan has accumulated valuable experiences that place it at the forefront of the province and even nationally.
Mayor Liu Yuelun emphasized that the "innovation-driven strategy" is the best choice for Foshan's future development. The city plans to continue implementing the integration of urban and human resources, promoting the convergence of technology, finance, and industry. It will also focus on innovating mechanisms and systems, using the "development cost" as a driving force to push forward the construction of a national innovative city.
