The price of crude oil has risen following the Lantern Festival, according to recent market reports. As of February 15, the fluctuation rate of crude oil in three major regions has reached 4.29%, triggering the first price adjustment window for refined oil products this year. However, due to the ongoing Spring Festival holiday and weekend, the official price increase is expected to be delayed by a few days. Some analysts suggest that the adjustment might even be postponed until the Lantern Festival, which marks the end of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations.
According to Zhuo Chuang Information, the proposed price increase could range from 350 to 400 yuan per ton. This translates to an approximate rise of 0.27 to 0.31 yuan per liter for 93# gasoline and 0.30 to 0.34 yuan per liter for 0# diesel. In Beijing, 92# gasoline is expected to exceed 8 yuan per liter again, while 95# gasoline will likely enter the 8-yuan bracket in most parts of China. This adjustment comes as a result of rising global oil prices and continued demand from domestic consumers.
The wholesale price of refined oil has been on an upward trend since early February. By February 6, the fluctuation rate had already reached 2.18%. During the Spring Festival, international oil prices remained at high levels for several consecutive days, further pushing up the fluctuation rate. According to data from multiple monitoring agencies, by the close of February 15, the fluctuation rate had surpassed 4%, officially opening the door for a price hike. As the fluctuation continues to grow, the domestic wholesale prices of refined oil are expected to keep rising.
After the Spring Festival, the downstream market has shown strong demand, with refineries across the country pushing prices higher. Some local refineries have increased their prices by over 200 yuan per ton. Although current prices are still below the national maximum limit, it's expected that wholesale prices will continue to climb in the coming weeks.
Regarding the exact timing of the price adjustment, some analysts believe the National Development and Reform Commission may announce the increase immediately, setting a new precedent after the first Spring Festival of the year. Others, however, think the adjustment might be delayed until the Lantern Festival, as officials may prefer to avoid any potential public backlash during the holiday period. Regardless of the timing, the overall trend suggests that fuel prices are heading higher in the near future.
