First, Variety Selection
It is recommended to choose a variety that has a strong flavor, thick leaves, high fiber content, good quality, and high yield, which is well-suited for autumn planting. This ensures better growth and productivity during the growing season.
Second, Sowing
Sowing should take place from late August to late October. After sowing, cover the seeds with fine soil and ensure the surface is smooth. The germination period for Artemisia selengensis typically lasts between 30 to 70 days. Seedlings are usually transplanted when they are 30 to 35 days old, with a spacing of 10 cm by 16 cm between plants.
Third, Field Management
6-7 days after sowing, you can thin out the seedlings. When 1-2 leaves have developed, it's time to weed the area and adjust the spacing to 4 cm by 4 cm. During the early growth stage, water management should be done using small amounts of water, watering in the morning and evening. If transplanting seedlings, water them 1-3 times daily for 2-3 days, then reduce to once a day in the morning and evening. In the middle growth phase, keep the soil consistently moist. Once the plants reach about 10 cm in height, start applying fertilizer, mainly quick-release nitrogen. If harvesting young shoots, water and fertilize after each harvest to encourage the growth of lateral branches.
Fourth, Harvest
When the seedling height of Artemisia scoparia reaches 14-16 cm, it is ready for harvest. It is common to select large plants in stages and batches, focusing on the young shoots. After each harvest, water and apply fertilizer to promote the regrowth of side branches until flowering occurs. This process helps maintain continuous production and improves overall yield.
