On September 9, Mianyang High-tech Zone and the Institute of Applied Electronics of the China Academy of Engineering Physics held a signing ceremony for a military-civilian integration industry project. Seven advanced military-civilian and high-tech projects were officially settled in Mianyang, marking a significant step forward in the region's development. Among these, a groundbreaking pipeline weld inspection information system—unique to both the United States and Russia—is now entering full-scale industrial production.
Sichuan Dipai Rui Technology Co., Ltd., leveraging the research and development platform of the Institute of Applied Electronics and the National X-ray Digital Imaging Instrument Center, has spent seven years on innovation. The company has completed five major technological breakthroughs and successfully developed an internationally leading pipeline weld inspection system that is exclusive to China.
Currently, the total length of oil and gas pipelines in China exceeds 100,000 kilometers, with steel pipelines being the primary method for long-distance energy transmission. This new system introduces a digital real-time imaging solution for online inspection of petroleum pipeline welds for the first time, replacing traditional film-based methods. It reduces costs by approximately 70% compared to conventional techniques. Beyond oil and gas, the system has broad applications in pressure vessels, aerospace, nuclear energy, automotive manufacturing, and materials science, offering a versatile and efficient alternative across multiple industries.
This development not only strengthens China’s position in the field of non-destructive testing but also highlights the growing synergy between scientific research and industrial application. With continued investment and innovation, such technologies are expected to play a key role in enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in critical infrastructure sectors.
