Use the Intersect tool in SolidWorks

In today's article, I introduce a very powerful new feature in SolidWorks 2013, the "intersect" tool. The intersection tool allows you to perform very complex operations, quickly combining the surface, plane and solids of the trimming and filling functions, with virtually no need for multiple cuts to meet any desired operation. The tool uses a visual operator interface that allows you to do all possible attempts. To determine the geometric model you will eventually need to create. Here's an example of how to use the Intersect tool to help you quickly build the entities you need from multiple intersecting organizations.

As shown in the figure below, this is a junction box. Our design goal is to add 4 ports that intersect each other inside the junction box.

The first step: start the intersection tool (can be found on the feature toolbar)

Step 2: Select the three entities in the figure. When you select each entity, they are displayed in the selection box in the Feature Manager.

Step 3: Select the "Intersect" button.

Step 4: Generate an exclusion list in the feature manager at the intersection of each area of the graph.

Step 5: The selected area may be the final result of exclusion or retention. In this example, selecting the area of the pipe, there are two different ways to generate the final junction box:

1. Select the final reserved part directly from the graphics area.

2. Select the part of the final result that is excluded from the graphics area.

The sixth step:

Step 7: For the area you selected, they will be highlighted in the graphics area. Some areas may not be selectable in the graphics area. Because they may exist inside the entity, in this example junction box, I recommend selecting the “Remove List Options” and then selecting the area shown above.

The eighth step:

Step 9: Ensure that the merged results exist in the Feature Manager options bar.

Step 10: When the preview results are satisfactory, please select “OK”. (green checkbox button, accept and apply)

The eleventh step: the results are determined. The entire operational feature displays a new intersection function icon in the Feature Manager. The final result is a single entity due to the result of the merge.

Step 12: If you want to adjust your selection, you can edit the intersection function at any time, just like editing other functions is the same way.
