The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that the US government is considering "significant reductions" in five employment-based cultural exchange visas in the J-1 visa program.
The J-1 visa program also includes exchange programs for college students, but the Wall Street Journal stated that such visas are not considered for reduction.
According to the US State Department, the J-1 visa program is divided into 15 categories. “Every year, about 300,000 foreign visitors are given the opportunity to experience American society and culture.â€
The US State Department declined to comment on the Wall Street Journal report.
