Summer floor decoration maintenance needs to be protected from moisture and rain

In recent years, the home decoration industry has experienced a shift in seasonal trends. While summer was once considered a low season, it is no longer the case. As temperatures rise and daylight hours increase, along with better ventilation, more homeowners are choosing to decorate during this time. This has led to a mini boom in the home renovation market during the summer months. Experts warn that summer renovations require extra attention compared to spring or autumn, particularly when it comes to managing moisture and protecting against rain. Some homeowners may face issues like warping, bubbling, or mold due to improper maintenance or poor decoration practices. How can you properly maintain your floors? What steps should you take to prevent moisture and mold in the summer? Let’s explore what flooring professionals recommend. Flooring materials, including engineered wood floors, are made from wood. One of the natural characteristics of wood is its tendency to expand and contract based on environmental conditions. This can lead to problems such as warping, cracking, peeling, uneven surfaces, blistering, and delamination. When the environment becomes stable, many of these issues may improve over time. To prevent moisture damage, consider the following measures: 1) Keep windows open during rainy days. 2) Regularly check for leaks in plumbing systems. 3) Install a moisture barrier under the floor if necessary. 4) For cement, ground, or geothermal floors, ensure a proper moisture-proof layer is in place. 5) When installing a raised or joist-based floor, avoid making the subfloor too wet. 6) Clean up spills, such as pet urine or accidental water, immediately. 7) If using a carpet on the floor, keep it small (under 1 square meter) and ensure it's breathable. For floors that have been heavily damp or soaked for over 30 minutes, signs like deformation, bulging, or loss of shine may appear. In such cases, the floor is likely beyond repair and should be replaced. The moisture beneath must be removed and the area dried thoroughly. If the floor is only slightly damp or soaked, you can dry it out by ventilating the space. If needed, remove the floor panels to check for any standing water underneath. Dry them thoroughly before reinstallation. For mildly damp floors, move them to a cool, well-ventilated area to dry naturally. Avoid direct heat sources, sunlight, or high-speed fans, as these can worsen the damage. Once the environment stabilizes, the appearance of the floor should improve. Avoid applying oils or wax until the floor has fully recovered—usually after 1–2 months. Solid wood floors, in particular, should not be waxed unless specified, and essential oil treatments should be done only after the floor has stabilized.
