Accident: Motorcycle Crashes Into Rocks

On the early morning of January 19, a tragic motorcycle accident occurred at the construction site of the Dongkeng Bridge on the Yellow Line of the Lianjiang River. A two-person motorcycle overturned, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man.

The victim, Kobayashi, was a resident of Anhai Village in Ankai Township, Lianjiang. According to family members, he and three friends had gone out for fun on the evening of the 18th. They planned to visit Aunt Huang, who lived several kilometers away. The group took two motorcycles, with Kobayashi riding one of them. Around 3:00 AM, the accident happened.

According to witnesses and Kobayashi's companion, the motorcycle hit a cement block on the road, causing it to flip over. Kobayashi suffered a severe head injury when his back of the head struck the block. He bled heavily at the scene and was taken to the Huangxi Health Center for treatment. By around 5:00 AM, the family received a call and rushed to the hospital. However, by the time they arrived, Kobayashi had already stopped breathing. He was later transferred to Lianjiang County Hospital but died en route due to critical injuries caused by a severe brain trauma.

The Family Claims Construction Fault

After the incident, the family visited the site and discovered that part of the road was closed during the construction, while the other half remained open. They found that the construction area was partially enclosed using cones, but large cement blocks were scattered between the cones and the site. These blocks were described as being roughly the size of a football. The family also noted that only one construction sign was visible, and no clear warning signs were placed along the entire construction zone.

The family believes that the construction company failed to remove the excavated cement blocks in a timely manner, which directly contributed to the accident. They argue that the lack of proper lighting and inadequate signage at the site significantly increased the risk of such incidents. The family has not yet been able to meet with the construction party directly, but they learned that the project is managed by the Lianjiang County Road and Harbor Engineering Development Co., a subsidiary of the Lianyungang Highway Bureau.

Lianjiang Police Investigate Alcohol Involvement

According to the Lianjiang police, they are still investigating the incident. They confirmed that the deceased’s blood sample was tested in Fuzhou, and the results showed the presence of alcohol. However, the final report is still pending, and details have not been officially released. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the handling of the case will be determined based on the final findings.

Family Demands Accountability

The family of Kobayashi is calling for full accountability from the construction company. They believe that the failure to properly manage the construction site and clear hazardous materials led to their loved one’s death. They urge authorities to take action and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
