How to Prevent Insects from Wooden Doors:
Keeping wooden doors and furniture free from insects is essential to maintain their durability and appearance. Here are some effective methods to prevent infestations and protect your wood:
1. To keep mites away from wooden furniture, you can apply concentrated saltwater several times on the surface. This creates a barrier that deters mites from settling on the wood.
2. Place camphor-soaked cotton balls inside cabinets, wardrobes, or drawers. Camphor oil has natural insect-repelling properties that help keep cockroaches and other pests at bay.
3. Crush some chili peppers and mix them with boiling water. Pour the mixture into small holes or crevices in the wood. The strong scent and heat can kill insects and prevent them from spreading.
4. Mix a small amount of insecticide with water and pour it into the holes of the wooden door. This method is effective for killing mites but should not be used on bamboo containers or storage areas for food, as it may contaminate the contents.
5. Apply protective coatings like raw tung oil, shellac, or varnish to undamaged corners of the wooden door. These treatments create a protective layer that prevents mites from coming into contact with the wood. Make sure to coat both sides and the inner walls evenly for full protection.
6. If the wooden door is already damaged by insects, use a solution of dichlorvos mixed with water (in a 1:5 ratio) and spray it thoroughly using a sprayer. Repeat this process 3–5 times, allowing the solution to penetrate the wood. After 8 hours, most aphids and mites will be eliminated. Finally, rinse the door with water and let it dry completely.
7. For severely infested wooden doors, place them in direct sunlight and wipe them with a brush or cloth soaked in diesel fuel. Let the wood dry for a few hours, then repeat the process. Afterward, wash the door with soap and water, and allow it to dry fully before using it again.
8. When purchasing new wooden furniture, dip it in a 3% sodium fluoride solution. This treatment provides long-term protection against insect damage and ensures the furniture remains pest-free for years.
