When you paste the wallpaper, you are asked by the experts to deal with the damaged wall.

Today, wallpaper is widely used in home decoration. Before applying the wallpaper, it's important to check the condition of the walls. If the wall has been exposed for a long time, it’s recommended to treat it with a fungicide to eliminate any mold. Additionally, if the adjacent room is a bathroom, the interior walls must be properly waterproofed. Otherwise, moisture can accumulate over time, which may weaken the adhesive and cause the wallpaper to peel off.

Before pasting the wallpaper, the wall surface needs to be clean, smooth, and free of irregularities or cracks. Any uneven areas should be scraped off using a blade, and then filled with putty. Once dry, sand the area until it’s even. For large surfaces, mixing old powder with cooked rubber powder can help strengthen the wall. For smaller gaps, use gypsum powder mixed with a small amount of oil to create a smooth paste. It’s best to apply two coats of varnish to protect the wall from moisture. After drying, gently sand it again with fine sandpaper. Avoid adding too much oil, as this can make the wall too smooth, leading to poor adhesion and potential seams when the wallpaper dries.

The main steps for applying wallpaper on a plasterboard surface include: cleaning, filling gaps, sanding, sealing joints, applying putty, sanding again, brushing a primer, marking lines, applying adhesive, pasting the wallpaper, aligning patterns, pressing out air bubbles, removing excess glue, and trimming any excess.

Before pasting the wallpaper, proper wall preparation is essential. The wall must be smooth, dry, free of cracks, and solid. Dust and debris should be removed thoroughly. For cement brick walls that are already flat, apply a thin coat of varnish after using putty to level the surface. For gypsum board walls, fill the seams first before applying the putty. The varnish and seal primer serve to cure and protect the putty, while also improving its resistance to alkali. These steps should be done only after the putty is fully dry.

Wall treatment for wallpaper is similar to that for painting, so a painted wall can be converted into a wallpapered one, provided it is sanded properly. When applying wallpaper, the base must meet the standards outlined in the Chinese National Standard GB50210-2001 for the acceptance of quality in building decoration. This includes ensuring that the old wall is cleaned and the old layers removed, and an interface agent is applied. New concrete or plaster walls should be treated with an alkali-resistant primer before applying putty.

The base surface should have consistent color, with moisture content not exceeding 8% for concrete or plaster, and 12% for wood. The wall’s flatness, verticality, and corner alignment must meet the requirements of the "Code for the Acceptance of Quality of Building Decoration Engineering." A sealing coat should be applied before pasting the wallpaper, and the putty should be firm, smooth, and free from flaking or cracking. Finally, don’t forget to consider the environmental impact of the wallpaper adhesive you choose—opt for eco-friendly options whenever possible.
