February 23 News: US SunPower installed 5.4 MW of Sun Power E20 solar panels at three rooftop locations on Phoenix Sky Harbour International Airport, generating electricity that is expected to meet the airport's rental center, two 51% of the electricity demand for car parks and toll plazas will save the airport $4.7 million over the next 20 years. The solar installation project was completed within two months.
According to estimates by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the solar project will help reduce CO2 emissions by more than 5,500 tons per year, equivalent to a reduction of 19,800 vehicles on the roads in Arizona in the next 20 years.
Greg Stanton, mayor of Phoenix, said that with the installation of Sun Power's solar energy system, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has been able to continue fulfilling its energy-saving promises to continuously improve air quality in Arizona while saving costs for the airport.
