For medium-water and medium-fertilizer plots, varieties like Li Yu 16, Zhongke 11, and Henan Wo 998 are ideal. In drought-prone or flood-affected areas, varieties such as Zhongke No. 4, Ludan 981, and Zhengda 12 are more appropriate. Preparation before sowing is equally important. Seed treatment plays a key role in ensuring strong germination and healthy seedlings. This includes using coated seeds, preparing the soil properly, and enhancing the germination potential of the seeds. Proper seeding methods—such as planting, broadcasting, or machine sowing—should be selected based on the actual situation. Timing is also crucial. For summer corn, the optimal sowing period is generally between June 1st and June 15th. Sowing too early or too late can negatively affect yield. The recommended plant density varies depending on the variety and soil fertility. For example, in fertile fields, 3000 to 3300 plants per mu are typical, while in less fertile areas, 3500 to 3800 plants per mu may be more suitable. Moisture is another vital factor. Ensuring adequate moisture during sowing helps achieve full and uniform emergence. Corn relies on strong plants to produce large ears, and insufficient moisture can lead to poor yields. Farmers should ensure that the soil is well-watered before planting. It's also important to maintain proper spacing between plants to allow for optimal growth and resource utilization.
