Students develop environmental chewing gum residue for automatic degradation

(Reporter Li Rongguo's reporter Wang Qi) The spotted chewing gum stains on the ground are not only unsightly but also unhygienic. Can we find a way to automatically degrade chewing gum residues? Du Qianwen, Kang Jie, Wang Changqian and other students from the Nanjing University of Finance and Economics School of Food Science and Engineering have moved their brains. Under the guidance of teacher Tang Pei'an, after repeated experiments, they developed a "green chewing gum" and won the first prize at the Nanjing University Students Food Technology Forum.

“Our chewing gum is environmentally friendly. The secret is to use a biodegradable gum base that is different from traditional chewing gum. After a while, the chewing gum residue will be eaten by the microorganisms, and it will not pollute the environment.” Du Qianwen told reporters.
