Shandong University delegation visits Ukraine to promote technical cooperation in super hard industry

From May 24 to 28, Li Shucai, Vice President of Shandong University, led a delegation to visit the Institute of Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to promote multinational technical cooperation. During the period, Li Shucai and his party also visited the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine. Wang Shujian, deputy governor of Shandong Province, attended the relevant activities. At the Institute of Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Li Shucai introduced the history and development of Shandong University and the construction of the State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, and praised the achievements of the Superhard Materials Research Institute in the field of international superhard materials research. It is hoped that both parties will cooperate in the field of wide-bandgap semiconductor research such as diamond and nitride single crystal. Prof. VZ Turkevich, Director of the Institute of Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, has confidence in the future cooperation between the Institute and Shanda. It is planned to return to Shanda in the second half of 2016 to further deepen mutual understanding and implement specific cooperation contents. Li Shucai signed a tripartite strategic cooperation agreement with VZ Turkevich and Chairman of Jinan Zhongwu New Materials Co., Ltd. Wang Yifu. The three parties agreed to cooperate in the research of wide-bandgap semiconductors, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and build together when the time is ripe. During the visit, Li Shucai and his party also visited the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine. Ambassador Zhang Xiyun of the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine fully affirmed the cooperation between Shandong University and the Institute of Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and stated that the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine is willing to provide necessary support for the cooperation between Shandong University and Ukrainian cultural and educational institutions. The responsible person of the State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials of Shandong University participated in relevant activities.
The predecessor of the Institute of Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the Institute of Superhard Materials of the Soviet Union established in 1961. The Institute has 405 technicians, including one of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, six of the Fellow of Communications, and 216 of the Ph.D. . The institute has a complete synthetic diamond technology, and the research and development of superhard materials such as cubic boron nitride is at the advanced level in the world. In November 2015, Academician Xie A. Ivanh, Director of the 13th Research Office of the Institute, was invited as a visiting professor at Shandong University.
