iRobot launches an upgraded version of the underwater unmanned control car Seaglider

On September 20, 2011, iRobot (Nasdaq: IRBT), which leads the robotics industry, introduced a new configuration of the Seaglider underwater unmanned control vehicle. Seaglider can now be equipped with a large number of fairings, significantly increasing the volume and mass carrying capacity of underwater unmanned vehicles. The effective load capacity is doubled to 4 kg compared to the original Sealider, and the effective load capacity is expanded to more than 21,000 cubic centimeters, which is 650% larger than the original model, enabling Seaglider to integrate two times larger sensors and even integrate most sensors at the same time. .

“Seaglider has proven to be a very valuable tool for government agencies and oceanographic groups,” said David Heinz, vice president of iRobot Marine Systems. “The researchers say that Seaglider needs more sensing capabilities to make it suitable for a wider range of tasks. This new design allows Seaglider to install new sensors, providing future development work and potential market development. opportunity."

Seaglider has five sensor payloads to help it achieve more functionality. Recent research plans have enabled the new sensor to be mounted on the Seaglider, including a pump sensor that can be used to measure conductivity, temperature and pressure, and an optional pump dissolved oxygen sensor. Plans to integrate radiation sensors, echo probes and flow profile integration devices on Seaglider are also being developed.

As a long-lasting, remote underwater unmanned vehicle, the Seaglider performs missions at depths of 20 to 1000 meters. Seaglider was the first underwater unmanned vehicle to work in the ocean for September (without changing batteries) and completing up to 3,800 km.

The Seaglider will be on display at the 11 Ocean Symposium in Qatar, Hawaii on September 19-21. This marine seminar is a major international seminar that provides a platform for scientists, engineers, and marine user leaders to present the latest research, programs, trends and applications in marine engineering and marine technology. At the seminar, representatives from iRobot will present and elaborate three important research papers.
