China's large-scale solar panel maker Trina Solar announced on December 16, 2015 that the company's p-type monocrystalline silicon solar cells (power generation components) have achieved the highest conversion efficiency in the world of industrial grade products 22.13 %.
The battery cell was developed by the State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Photovoltaic Science and Technology. It has a size of 156mm x 156mm and a conversion efficiency of 22.13%. It has been certified by the Fraunhofer ISE CalLab.
The previous record was 21.40% set by the laboratory. The lab took about 1 year to increase the conversion efficiency by 0.73%.
This unit is based on the high-efficiency cell technology "Honey Plus" of Trina Solar, using a positive and negative double-sided passivation method, which is fabricated on a boron-doped Cz-Si substrate.
According to Trina Solar, at the laboratory level, UNSW uses a 2cm square unit to achieve a 25% conversion efficiency. The industry level is very close to this record, only a difference of 2.87 percentage points. (Special Contributor: Kato Shinichi, Nikkei BP Institute of Clean Technology)
