Japan's Sandvik (SANDVIK, Headquarters: Kobe City) added a blade for stainless steel drilling in the "Super U drill" series of cutter-replaceable drills, which was launched on October 25, 2009 (pictured). Austenitic stainless steel and duplex stainless steel, which are considered to be difficult to machine materials, can be processed with high precision.
The Super U drill reduces the vibration at the entrance of the machined hole by improving the shape of the blade and the configuration of the peripheral blade, thereby reducing the load. Up to twice the table feed can be achieved compared to previous products. This time, 10 new models have been added.
The newly added insert has a sharp grinding cutting edge developed for stainless steel machining applications and supports the new chip breaker "MS Breaker" for wide and deep depth. The peripheral blade is made of a newly developed oxide PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating on a superhard base metal. The center blade combination uses a super tough base metal with excellent toughness and the above PVD coating.
With the above-mentioned chip breaker and material, the weld resistance is improved in the processing of austenitic stainless steel and duplex stainless steel. Since the heat resistance is high, the wear of the rake face and the undercut surface can be reduced, so that the tool life can be extended to twice that of the conventional material in the austenitic stainless steel.
