On the Asian machine tool industry

The competition in the world machine tool market is competition in talents, technology, and enterprise management. Only by winning in these competitions can enterprises make a big impact in the market. However, in addition to talent, technology, and corporate management, there is an exceptionally important condition for multinational companies to realize the localization of products in the local market. The ancients have a cloud: "The benevolent sees benevolence, the wise sees wisdom", then what are the high opinions of our entrepreneurs and sales engineers on these issues?

For the Asian machine tool industry, in addition to Japan's technological level comparable to Europe and the United States, the overall development of the entire Asian machine tool industry is much longer than the developed countries in Europe and America. Then, what kind of "magic weapon" do we rely on to compete with the machine tool industry in developed countries? Based on the world's machine tool market, which is a master of the cloud, is the machine tool industry in developing countries in Asia still lagging behind developed countries in Europe and America? On the above various issues, we invited the CEOs and engineers of the machine tool companies to listen to their insights and hope to bring you inspiration.

a hundred schools of thought
When it comes to machine tool manufacturing in Asia, the most representative countries and regions are Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan. Among them, Japanese industry has a long history of development. Since the Meiji Restoration in the mid-19th century, Japan has begun to introduce advanced industrial technologies from European and American countries and strive to develop their national industries until now. Therefore, their current overall technical level of the machine tool industry is among the best in Asia and the world. For the follow-up development of China, China, Taiwan and South Korea, what is the current position in the world machine tool industry, can it catch up with developed countries such as Europe and the United States in the future? Let us listen to everyone's point of view.

Wu Jintang: Due to historical reasons, the Asian machine tool manufacturing industry developed relatively late. From the early imitation of European and American products to the current independent innovation design, although it has achieved quite good achievements, it has come from the overall technical level of the entire machine tool industry. Generally speaking, compared with developed countries in Europe and America, the strength of European and American countries is stronger than that of Asia. Of course, Japan is going to be removed, mainly because they have developed the machine tool industry for a long time longer than other Asian countries and regions, and their climate is more suitable, because the right climate is very beneficial for the development of the machine tool industry. of. You can see from the map, in the temperate northern hemisphere countries, their machine tools are relatively developed. However, since the end of World War II in the 20th century, the speed of the machine tool industry and even the entire industry in Asian countries and regions has been very fast, growing at a rate of tens of percent every year, of which the most representative ones are of course Our mainland China has become the world's largest machine tool consumer after only a few decades of development. This is a remarkable achievement. So I dare say this: the 19th century is the century of Europeans, the 20th century is the century of Americans, and the 21st century is the century of our Chinese.

Chen Shuangxi: I think our Asian machine tool industry is still in a new stage in the world. Although it has developed rapidly in recent years, compared with developed countries in Europe and America, the grade and quality of our domestic machine tool products will still be a little worse.

Among all Asian countries, the most powerful machine tool industry products are Japan, mainly because they have been developing in the past few decades or even hundreds of years in any other country and region in Asia. The products of Taiwan and South Korea are of the same grade, but I personally feel that Korean products will be better than Taiwan. Of course, this is not absolute. It depends on the specific type of products; then it is the machine tool products of our country. . However, compared with the machine tool products of Japan and Europe and the United States, we also have our advantage, that is, the machine tool products of the same grade products, the products of Europe and the United States and Japan will be hundreds of thousands or even higher than the price of our domestic products. Most companies are willing to buy a cost-effective product. Therefore, we have this price-performance advantage. Coupled with the financial crisis, the entire industry in Europe and the United States is basically in a state of shrinking and sluggish, and the impact on our side is also there, but it is not big, so I think if you can borrow This opportunity, let us develop for a period of time, our overall technical level in Asia will catch up even more than developed countries in Europe and America.

Chen Hongzhen: Actually, from the entire developing country, I think he should be a fertile ground. At present, although the developing countries are not so mature at the technical level compared with the developed countries in Europe and America, from the perspective of China's development during these years, it is not only the CNC system, but also the growth of the machinery industry and its entire industry chain. They are very fast and have achieved good results. But this does not mean that our technical level is very high. I think that he is a fertile ground for the metal processing industry because the demand in these developing countries is very large. They may have used hand tools in the early days, then manual machines, now automated machines, and their demand for technical and product grades will continue to expand.

Winning a thousand miles
When it comes to investment, people of different personalities think differently about the direction and way of investment. For the machine tool industry, it is no exception. His investment methods are also diverse: he can cooperate with more powerful local enterprises in the form of technology export; he can also directly invest in local production bases and produce products locally. To achieve localization of products. Taiwan's machine tool industry is known for its high cost performance. So what is the difference between their investment methods in mainland China and other Asian countries?

Wu Jintang: First of all, the mainland has a deep blood relationship with Taiwan. Secondly, the mainland government has provided many favorable investment policies for Taiwan businessmen. Third, the mainland has vast land, numerous outstanding talents and other resources, which is beneficial to our Taiwanese businessmen. We have developed into a company with strong market competitiveness, so we have to go to the mainland to invest and set up factories. South Korea is close to Qingdao, and the climate in South Korea is rather bad. It will not work properly in winter, so they will also come to China to invest and set up factories. Why do Japanese companies rarely come to China to invest in start-up production enterprises, but mainly rely on technology output? This is mainly due to many reasons in the history of China and Japan. They did not dare to come in at the beginning. If they invest in China, they will not be able to get out of the future. However, Japan can rely on mastered technology and local enterprises in mainland China to achieve mutual prosperity and win-win results. With the encouragement and favorable policies adopted by China in the past few years for multinational investment companies such as Japan, many Japanese companies have begun to set up factories in mainland China. For example, Makino and Mazak of Japan have set up factories in mainland China. Both sides are very beneficial.

Chen Shuangxi: It is a good way to invest and build factories in the mainland. However, from the perspective of our market sales personnel, the psychological role of customers at present will have a great impact on the entire product trading process. People will subconsciously think that Imported products must be more advanced, and the quality is better than domestic ones. In fact, we must also look at the specific products, some domestic products have reached or exceeded the performance of similar foreign products, and a relatively large disadvantage of pure imported products is that they are expensive because they need to include various related tax costs. For example, tariffs, transportation, etc. will all occupy a certain cost, and manufacturers will definitely use higher product prices.

For investors, investing in the mainland has great benefits, and the cost of cheap labor is very substantial. Secondly, it has unparalleled advantages in terms of manufacturers' support and services. Under the same product quality, the service quality of Taiwan-funded enterprises in mainland China is better than that of pure Taiwan-imported enterprises. If there is a problem with the machine tool of the mainland company's customers, if the manufacturer needs to provide the repair service, we can provide the service quickly. If the company does not set up a factory in mainland China, it is necessary to transfer professional technicians from Taiwan to the mainland, so that the personnel transfer time is relatively passive. . In addition, after foreign companies set up factories in China, they can purchase China's cost-effective machine tool accessories products, without having to buy them and then transport them back, saving freight and time.

I think machine tool companies outside the mainland want to make a difference in the Chinese market. It is best to build a factory in China, so that customers will be more assured when they buy products.

Zhang Songhua: We invest in the construction of factories in the mainland to produce products mainly from the sales target. Taiwan's factory sales target is mainly European countries, and in Europe, our 2009 benefits are also ok, we will increase investment in the mainland in the future, each year will develop new models in the mainland. We will pay more attention to the mainland market so that we can provide on-site services to our customers within 1 working day.

Chen Hongzhen: I think that in the first place, we should put manufacturing on the mainland first, and then put R&D on it. No matter when, the service must be placed locally. In fact, I think that in the future, everyone will increasingly put technology development on the mainland. We can see many corporate cases, like Microsoft, they also set up their own technology development centers in China, because China's talents will be more and more, if we miss this opportunity, it will be difficult to make up for it in the future. From the perspective of manufacturing, entering China to set up a factory is a very good way to save costs. We will see many Taiwan-funded enterprises investing in the mainland to start production bases. This model of self-research, self-production and self-sale is overall. The development of the manufacturing industry is very important.

In our company, many of today's application technologies are developed on the mainland, because this is the closest approach to customers, although some of them cannot be migrated in the short term, because it takes a lot of manpower in the process of transfer. Costs such as material resources, but nowadays many application technologies and many new things can find many good resources on the mainland. If we do not seize this opportunity, we will not enter the mainland market, and there will be no advantage.

Talent is the primary productivity
Deng Xiaoping once said: Science and technology are the primary productive forces. And supporting the development of science and technology is the talent resources. It can be said that talent is a valuable resource for every enterprise and every country to grow and develop. However, the issue of talent mobility is a problem that every enterprise must face and is also the most headache. So how should we view and solve the problem of talent mobility?

Wu Jintang: A good boss and company, employees are reluctant to go; a good employee, the boss can not bear to go. If your boss is very good and takes care of you, making you feel warm and warm, would you like to leave? will not. The treatment is almost inferior, but at least the boss and the employee have feelings. A good employee, he can bring good profits to the company, the company will improve his treatment, so that you can retain talent. However, the flow of people is relatively normal, because people want to stand on a higher point, so this is normal. The turnover rate of our company is not very high, that is, there are individuals who want to leave, and we will not retain too much, because we do not want to ruin the future of our employees.

Although we are worried about the departure of our employees, we will do our job well and let our employees feel that we are good teachers and good bosses, so that employees are reluctant to leave. We will also train our staff to make him feel that he is a good employee and that the boss can't bear to go.

To run a business, don't be too persistent, don't be too persistent and be bigger and stronger, manage the company well, and let employees feel that the company is warm and warm. Operating a company is the same as running a family. If the family is to unite, the family will be harmonious and the life will be happier. The same is true for the company. When everyone is united, the employees of the company will feel that everyone is a family. Will be harmonious, the company's development will be good.

Zhang Songhua: Now, no matter which company, the flow of talents is very large, especially private enterprises and foreign-invested companies like us. Because everyone wants to have better development in the future, this is the reason why people go to the heights. After the employees have learned a certain experience in the company, they feel that they will choose not to further improve their knowledge. Leaving; there is also one of the most concerned issues is the treatment problem, a company is well treated, and there is better treatment than this company; another is to learn a certain ability, do not care about wages, it is possible to go Start a business. There is also the company's policy and development. If the company's policies are good and the development is very rapid, not only will there be no significant mobility, but it will also attract excellent employees from other companies to enter your company.

When the company continues to develop and strengthen, others are also in the eyes, so that the company will be competitive in the market, so that employees feel that the development of such a company is more promising, it will run to your company. If the company stays at the original level and does not advance, it will be eliminated, and employees will have no sense of security when working in the enterprise.

Chen Hongzhen: Every company will say that talent is the key, talent is the resource, it is the treasure. So how do we choose when we are looking for talent? How is it used later? More education, then how to keep him in the company. I think this has always been a difficult problem for the company. Take our modern technology, retaining talent has always been the direction of our efforts. On the mainland side, our sales and technical staff are a big asset for the company. To prevent brain drain, it is very important to let the customer service staff be as technical as possible. In addition, after the staff training, they are sent to many different places to become the head of the local branch, so that he feels that he is the owner of the company. There will be no problem of brain drain. The reason why many corporate employees choose to leave is because he feels that there is nothing in the company to learn; there is no room for growth, so I want to leave and want to go out and take a trip.

In response to the above problems, we continue to give our employees some challenges. For example, we are constantly introducing new products so that employees are always in a state of learning. Another aspect is to look at the qualifications of employees. When the ability of employees is sufficient, we will give him the opportunity to launch him as a sales manager. He can play his talents at work. And our employees can continue to learn and grow. Therefore, we have been challenging our employees. Throughout the work process, the training and work they receive are very sound, and they feel that the technology they possess is not enough. Employees sometimes fall during work and sometimes taste sweet, which becomes a benign interaction.

Fascination of confidence
Since the economic crisis in the second half of 2008, the entire machine tool industry and the entire society have been shrouded in the crisis. However, some enterprises are happy with the arrival of the economic crisis, because the economic crisis will cause many companies to close down, which can reduce the pressure of competition. For them, this crisis is both an opportunity and a challenge. So how should we face this crisis correctly?

Wu Jintang: At present, our strategy is to minimize all aspects of expenditures. For example, to participate in the exhibition, we will make some efforts in considering the layout of the booth, and try to be economical.

In the current situation, the warming of the world economy is still difficult to achieve at the end of 2009. Why is the Chinese economy not as serious as Europe and the United States, that is, the Chinese government invests 4 trillion yuan to stimulate the economy, and actively encourages a series of policies such as expanding domestic demand. The Chinese economy has not been affected too much. The Chinese government has done a good job in this regard. When the RMB has been appreciating, a series of measures have been introduced to keep the exchange rate stable. So everyone has the confidence to spend this "cold winter."

Chen Shuangxi: We all know that sales have been greatly affected since August 2008. Early orders were delayed by the other party due to the impact of the economic crisis. The same is true for Aegma, and few companies feel that the business in 2009 is better. Only a small number of companies feel that business is better than in previous years in the current situation.

I feel that some companies are now better than the original, which has a lot to do with the correct policies of our country. Now China's economic aggregate is relatively strong in the world. Organizing a project, investing in a project, and going up very quickly. For example, wind power projects invested by the state, and those related to these projects will be driven to develop.

I feel that the impact of this financial crisis is still increasing, but this is only for certain industries. Some enterprises in China, especially inward-oriented enterprises, are doing well, while those of export-oriented enterprises and export-oriented enterprises should be greatly affected, which has caused them to suffer. Another point is that the subsequent impact of this crisis is also very long-term, and it is impossible to get better at once.

Zhang Songhua: Our product grades are mainly in the middle and high-end. The economic crisis has led to a great change in the sales of products. The sales processing center and the lathe are different. Like our 2009 situation, the benefits are better than the past two years. Thanks to our company's policy, we have now made some adjustments in the price to make the products more competitive in the Chinese market. For example, if the same part is processed under the same product quality, we will lower the price and the price/performance ratio will be higher. Our products are a little higher in price than domestic products. However, the processing precision of our products is much higher, and the processing speed will be faster. Compared with imported products from Europe and the United States, the processing efficiency is comparable to that of them. But the price is more reasonable, so it will be competitive, and it will have an advantage in the market.

Chen Hongzhen: In the Chinese market, from the second half of 2008 to the present, the Chinese government has launched a policy of vigorously supporting the development of the industry. From the machine tool industry, since the beginning of 2009, the impact of the financial crisis on the mainland has become less obvious. In the past, China's economy was mainly supported by the external demand market. Now the domestic demand market has developed. If the domestic demand market can be quickly put on the track, I think the impact of the international external crisis on China is no longer so terrible. However, since 2008, the machine tool companies that have been exporting have shrunk very quickly. It is obvious that the domestic demand market has not yet been able to get on the track very quickly. However, as a whole, China has maintained a relatively good market. When domestic demand is in line, the rapid growth in the future for our entire industry and even the entire Chinese market is foreseeable. Of course, if the connection is not good, then there may be a downturn for a long time. At present, the competition in China's machine tool industry is fierce. This crisis will promote the integration of China's machine tool industry. After the integration, China's machine tool industry will have a second spring.
