AMTDA Chairman Peter Borden said that total machine tool consumption rebounded slightly in May, but production declined. At present, from the increase in purchasing managers' index, inventory reduction and the increase in production index, it can be seen that the overall economic situation shows signs of recovery. However, because the federal government's dollar stimulates long-term misallocation, it is difficult for small and medium-sized enterprises to get support, which will affect the rapid recovery of the economy.

Southern region: Machine consumption in May was 13.23 million US dollars, a slight decrease of 1% from the previous month and 72.2% from May 2008. From January to May, the total consumption of machine tools was 80.94 million US dollars, down 75.7% year-on-year.
